Tips to keep in mind while cleaning party wear/expensive clothes

When it comes to laundry there are so many things that most people are unaware of. And this lack of knowledge leads to damage of our clothes and upholsteries like, curtains, cushions, bedsheets, etc. There are so many useful tips that one should be aware of while doing their laundry, especially the party wear / expensive clothes. Below are some of these tips that should be adhered to in order to keep your favourite clothes/garments clean and fresh for a long time.

Dry cleaning is the safest option to go ahead with such clothes but sometimes it is an expensive affair. But just keep the below tips in your mind from next time and you will be never worried about it again:

  1. Use a very mild liquid detergent:

Detergents powder or bars are a strict no-no when it comes to expensive clothes. And for normal clothes also, if you want to keep them new-like for a long time, always invest in a liquid detergent as it never leaves spots of detergent behind. And for expensive clothes, specially choose a mild version of the liquid soap as you would not want to damage the fabric strands with harsh substance.

  1. Don’t soak clothes in water overnight:

Many of us tend to leave clothes to soak in water and detergent overnight. While this can be followed for regular clothes but for the expansive or fragile clothes, this is not advisable as they might damage the garment. Soak these clothes for a maximum of 5-7 minutes and then wash off gently.

  1. Wash only in cold water

Never wash expensive clothes in lukewarm/hot water as they may result in bleeding of the colour or uneven patches on the clothes. Wash such clothes only in cold water as it helps retain the original colour.

  1. Don’t rub the clothes while washing

Whenever washing expensive clothes, do not ever run them with brush or in rigorous motion with hands. These need to handled gently, so just swish them slowly from side to side for 2-3 minutes and then rinse.

  1. Don’t dry on cloth line

Drying clothes on a line may result in damaging the fabric starnds or giving a start line on the cloth. Hence it is better to dry them on a hanger, or just keep them on a towel on the top of a table of on ground.

  1. Never dry in direct sun

This is another very important that should be kept in mind while washing expensive clothes. Direct sunlight is not good for many garments, and hence  can lead to fabric damage or discoloration, as it cant stand strong heat for a long duration. Try to dry clothes when it is rather windy, or indoors.

  1. Never skip the fabric conditioner

This is like a magic drink for your clothes. This nourishes the fabric strands and retains its freshness and locks the colour. It also gives a very pleasant fragrance to the clothes and helps them look like new for years.

  1. Wash each dress separately

Whenever you wash multiple clothes together, there is a risk of colour being transferred for one clothe to the other. Hence, it is advisable to not to take such risks with your favourite dress

  1. Don’t use harsh chemicals on stains

There are many chemicals that are sold in the market which boasts of making your old clothes look like new and make them bright and clean. But one should be cautious not to use any of such chemicals in order to experiment with their party wear clothes.

  1. Never bleach

Bleach should never be used on clothes. Though in the short term you might feel that it helps you get rid of yellow stains and makes clothes white, but in the long run it harms the clothes. It makes that fabric strands very fragile and they tend be worn out or torn apart very easily later.
